Spanish codifier, son of Asher ben Jehiel. He was born in Germany and went with his father to Spain in 1303. He lived first in Barcelona and later in Toledo. His code, Arbaah Turim, contains the decisions found in both versions of the Talmud, and those of the geonim, as well as those given in earlier commentaries and codes. The work is divided into four parts: 'Orah Hayyim' deals with daily conduct, including prayers, Sabbaths and holidays; 'Yoreh Deah' lays down dietary laws; 'Even ha-Ezer' covers personal and family matters; and 'Hoshen Mishpat' describes civil law and adminstration.
